How to get a diagnosis

A diagnosis is usually made by a paediatrician (after referral by a General Practitioner) in consultation with a team of support professionals, which may include speech therapist, psychologist, occupational therapist, neurologist and devlopmental paediatrician. Depending upon the age of the referred child, input may also be sought from teachers or childcare workers. This assessment process can take between 4 weeks and 6 months depending upon whether or not you use the public or private health system and on the backlog of assessments underway.
