Which health and therapy professionals should I
contact?
The following list of professionals is not exhaustive
but simply
representative of the contacts fostered by ABIQ parents and members.
Whilst we have found that some practitioners are not extensively
experienced with Autism or ABA, we have found them to be good at what
they do, and can therefore help parents in their quest for information
and direction. However, please remember that choosing professionals to
work with your child is a very personal decision, and there may be
people on this list that you have had less than positive interactions
with. We would then suggest that you try the next person on the list,
or if you decide to search for your own practitioner and you do find
someone you really like, let us know. We'd be only too happy to add
them and let everyone else know too.

Victorian ABA Providers is a company that
specializes in teaching
pre-school age children with autism, pervasive developmental disorders,
and related developmental disabilities. The intervention program was
developed by Dr. O. Ivar Lovaas, Ph.D., and is based on extensive
clinical experience and more than 35 years of scientific research
conducted in the Psychology Department at UCLA. The program is
comprehensive and aimed at enhancing the intellectual, academic,
social, and emotional behaviours of young children, so that they may
take better advantage of the educational and social opportunities
available in their communities and require less professional attention
as they grow older.

(Augmentative Communication is a relatively new field in
communication
therapy. It is an approach generally offered by specialist speech
pathologists working with people who have severe communication
difficulties.)
(If sensory input, whether it is a visual, tactile,
auditory etc.. is
received in a distorted or faulty manner, the behaviours that are based
on that input are likely to be distorted. Many of the behaviours that
are characteristic of Autism, may include attempts to manage in spite
of a visual system that fails to provide understandable reliable
information.)
(Music Therapy is the planned use of music to achieve
therapeutic aims.
The therapist uses music to help children who have a disability gain
non musical knowledge and skills that are essential to or part of their
development.)

assisting families who need help, positive thinking, functional support

Family Package ($50 for first consultation;
$60 per hour thereafter) SCIP specialises in working with
families who have a
child with
additional needs and would like someone to assist them in navigating
community services, resources and assistance. The family package
includes collaborative interviews, discussions and an action plan. SCIP
offers follow up services to all children as they transition through
their life phases, environmental and social changes.
